Do's and Dont's For Destination Wedding Planning

Destination Wedding “Do’s” and “Don’ts”

From Perfect Weddings of St. Thomas

 DO’s

Do have a realistic budget plan

Do make a realistic guest list

Do cater your wedding to a smaller group of close family and friends

- plan at least one group event, be it a welcome dinner, sailing excursion, luncheon, beach excursion to show your appreciation.

Do prepare a list of the details of your wedding for the wedding planner

Do choose a dress that is appropriate for your type of wedding and most of all for the warm weather.

Do bring plenty of sunscreen and bug spray for mosquitoes or provide a gift basket containing those items to your guests.

Do write your own vows-it makes your wedding ceremony special!

Do include your fiancé in the planning stages J

Do travel with your wedding dress on the flight down

Do consider the fact that all of the beaches in the U.S. Virgin Islands are public and that if your wedding is on the beach, chances are there will be a lot of tourists there as well.  Consider a non-beach venue and then taking pictures on the beach!

Do ask your coordinator to provide water for your guests before and after your wedding on the beach!

Do remember to include professional photography and/or professional videography to document your wedding if it is not included in your wedding package, it is a mistake not too!

Do consider acknowledging good service.  Gratuities are NOT expected, but are much appreciated!

DON’TS

Don’t stress-leave that to your wedding coordinator

Don’t forget to download your marriage documents and file both documents 30 days prior to the wedding.

Don’t try to include too many elements into your wedding day.

Don’t forget to call your wedding coordinator upon arrival to the island.

Don’t forget to provide your guests with an itinerary.

  1. Thanks for your super writing style. It made for some very interesting lunchtime reading!

  2. My fiance and I finally agreed on having our wedding on Carnivals “Dream” December if 2012. They have their wedding packages posted and the best one shows it’s under $2,000 which is great. We have two boys, both emwill be able to join their toddler program. I’m really nervous that everything will add up with hidden fees and that we’ll be swept off our feet with charges. Neither of us have cruised, but bundling the wedding and honeymoon in one is financially helpful.. So it seems. Should I get a travel agent to help organize the details pre boarding, do they even do that, and how much? Ahhhhhh!!

    • Cassandra,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on the blog. Working with a Travel Agent will make the process less stressful and with most online agencies like CruiseDeals.com there are not any additional fees.
