Hurricane Ike – Not Good

Hurricane Ike looks like it is going to cause more issues for cruises than Hannah or Gustav due to its strength and project path. My brother and sister in-law are booked on their first cruise, the NCL Sky departing out of Miami on 9/8. It was originally supposed to go to the Bahamas, although I doubt that it will go to the bahamas. I am not a meteorologist, so what I think does not really matter. But I think the 9/8 cruise will get out of Miami before Ike gets there but that it will go to Cozumel instead of the bahamas. Either way they are stressed out because ofthe unknown, and I understand. There are thousands of people in the same boat, no pun intended. As I told them, relax! We have no control over the upcoming storms and the projected path has a huge variance, so there is no telling where the hurricane may be in two days. Keep checking the Hurricane Tracking Page here at CruiseSource to see which itineraries have changed. Stressing about the storm will do no good because it is completely out of our control.

  1. Okay then smarty pants…I’m gonna try and “relax”…. I believe you told me to do that when I was worried about Hannah… and just when I wasnt worried about that anymore, this Ike thing slaps me in the face! What luck! Geeze!

But, I’m gonna have to rely on your judgement since you’re the professional!! And if you say everything is going to be fine, well then, I guess I have to take your word for it! I’d better get some sun on this trip though dangit! :)

Do you think our first day will have lots of delays? Because even if the boat is able to leave, there will most likely still be baaad weather, and late people….and frankly, I don’t want to waste 1 of my 4 days! LOL! What say you?
    Oh yeah…
    Happy Anniversary!!!!!!!!!

  2. Hey Lauren!

Nice to see you found the blog!

Relaxing is tough, when it is your vacation that is being impacted by Hurricanes. You have spent a lot of time planning and looking forward to your vacation and I hate that you have the added stress of the Hurricanes. Unfortunately we are in a wait and see situation that is out of our control.

I know it does not make the situation any better, but there are thousands of people in a similar situation. You are better off than a lot of those people though because you did buy travel insurance.

hey..I dont know if you’re up or not… if you are….do you know if the carry on bag for the ship is as strict as the airlines? I mean, do I have to put my face wash and stuff like that in lil 3.5oz bottles? Thanks!

    Lauren,

The Cruise Lines are not as strict as the Airlines about what can be brought on the ship. They will go through your bags for everyone’s safety, but they allow liquids on the ship unlike airlines. They do not allow Irons on the ship though because they are a fire hazard. ~ Rich Tucker
