A few Packing Tips for your next Cruise
Here are few Quick Packing Tips for your next cruise:
Always pack a small hand-carry bag with your toiletries, Prescription Medicine, and bathing suit just in case your luggage isn’t delivered until later in the evening.
Be sure to pack ‘Bonine’ over – the –counter in case of motion sickness – works great – also it is non-drowsy…
Bring Bottled Waters in the luggage you are checking to be delivered to your room.
Surge Protector/Extension Cord – there are not enough outlets in your cabin.
Post it notes to leave your cabin Steward Notes.

I wanted to suggest highlighters for marking up the daily newsletter/caper.
Amy,
That is a great suggestion! One I had not thought of before, but will definitely use!
Thanks – Rich Tucker
I always pack: a small swiss army knife, a leatherman multi-tool, maps of the area I am cruising, a GPS, and a small pair of binoculars. Find me on board if your suitcase zipper is stuck, you need to cut a random thread off your cocktail dress, or you want to know where we are!

There is a difference when packing for an expedition type of cruise vs a regular cruise. First, you will not need bottled water (as mentioned above) because all soft drinks and filtered water are included!
Of course packing depends on the destination. In Galapagos, Baja and Costa Rica Lindblad provides shorty wetsuits and snorkeling equipment.
We provide detailed packing lists custom for each itinerary but generally an expedition takes you outdoors, and since daily excursions are included you will likely participate in them.
Comfortable walking shoes and sandals are a must, and binoculars are great for spotting wildlife(though we always have extra on board to borrow), bathing suit, fleece for chilly evenings, clothes that dry quickly in case it rains, a rainjacket, a good quality waterproof bag for your camera (the zodiacs can be splashy) and a long sleeve shirt with sunscreen protection are good to have.
Also there is a 30 minute morning stretch and many people forget to bring some stretchy pants or shorts for that. Even if you don’t think you will participate, you will be surprised at how good it makes you feel and wind up participating.
On a Lindblad voyage, dinner is a casual environment so fancy clothes and jewelry are not necessary or recommended. The final night dinner is a little more dressy so I like to bring a skirt or a dress for that goodbye meal.
The cold weather voyages require much more rugged equipment. For Antarctica we provide the red parka (red so you can be seen!) but boots and other cold weather gear (hats, gloves etc) are essential.
And finally, everybody should remember to bring extra camera batteries, sunscreen (no matter what the climate the sun can be harsh), sunglasses and a hat. If you feel unsteady on your feet, consider purchasing a collapsible walking stick, which will give you more confidence in rocky terrain.
Jill,
Thank you for taking the time to write such an informative Comment…Just so the Readers understand, Jill’s advice is for Expedition Cruising…some similarities…especially for Alaska Cruises. But definitely many differences. ~ Rich Tucker
Thanks, Rich. Somehow I thought that my connection to Lindblad Expeditions would be more clear when it was posted. I should have begun by saying that I work for Lindblad.
I think it is because the conversation was carried over from Twitter…but not all my readers will have come from Twitter!
I always bring a over the door shoe organizer for tolietries in the bathroom…hang it on the door and everything is within reach (even from the shower!). I just pick one up from the dollar store before we go!
Thanks for this article, very educational. I did a lot of research before I bought a system for my geocaching. It is such a enjoyable hobby. What receiver do you use? Click here if you’d like to check out my site. Thanks again for a very informative site!
Nice. I’ll use that at my web-page
handy to have a PortaPocket lightweight strap-on carrying case system you can wear under your clothes to take your keycard or money, etc to the gym, exercise or shore excursion, etc. The neoprene pocket components are detachable & interchangeable so you can swap them out to also fit small cameras, passports, cell phones, etc. Keep your small valuables & things you need safely & comfortably ON yourself to minimize risk of theft, loss & inconvenience.
How do you put together a nice jewelry box that organizes all of your jewelry? How much would something like this cost?
