I have written an article or two about the power of Social Media and how I use it in the Cruise Industry. There is another individual I have found in the Cruise Industry who is doing an excellent job utilizing the Social Media apps to build a large audience (over 5000 followers on Twitter), engage in conversation, and to make meaningful connections.
Gene Sloan, writer for USAToday’s Cruise Log, is one of the best at utilizing Social Media in the Cruise Industry. Gene is a main connector between Cruise Agents, Cruise Lines, Cruise Lovers, and the Media. With his @CruiseLog Twitter account, you will find him tweeting Cruise Industry Breaking news, tweeting with agents, retweeting great deals, or answering cruise related questions from his readers. Gene is using Twitter to make real connections/friendships and then uses those connections to help make his blog more useful to his readers.
Gene does an excellent job of writing articles on USA Today and then using Twitter to drive conversation back to his blog in the comments section. In the Comments section of Gene’s articles you will find opinions from Agents, Cruisers, and even haters of the Cruise Industry.
So from previous posts, you know I do not recommend using forums such as Cruise Critic and TripAdvisor as a primary source of your information. I would recommend following @CruiseLog along with @CruiseSource on Twitter for Cruise advice, deals, and reviews. I also recommend checking in on the USAToday’s Cruise Log for full original articles on Cruise Industry news from an unbiased reporter.
