We are halfway through the Social Fresh Cruise experience and I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had time to write about it. So here is a recap of the first 3 days.
Bon Voyage recap:
We had our Bon Voyage tweetup at the New Orleans Sheraton. The Sheraton, @SheratonNOLA on Twitter, hooked us up with a beautiful spread and they were awesome hosts. The Sheraton is a beautiful property located two blocks from Bourbon Street and a 5 minute cab ride from the port of New Orleans. Of course, after the Bon Voyage Tweetup several of us hit Bourbon Street.
Day 1 Carnival Triumph
Yesterday we all boarded the Carnival Triumph. There were some close calls on attendees missing the boat… but as we were about to sail away @CrawfordComeaux was able to jump across gangway… ok not quite that dramatic but pretty close. Throughout the day, Carnival’s new Customer Support Twitter account @CCLsupport was very helpful, they even called the pier to let them know that we had a few guests running late and to keep us updated on the exact departure time.
At the sail away tweetup, many of the Social Fresh Cruisers met for the first time face to face. It is an awesome experience to meet your online friends face to face for the first time. On a Cruise ship, even better. We threw a complimentary cocktail party for the attendees and to assist in getting to know each other @AdeleTiblier created a fun slide show with pics and facts of each of the attendees. From the cocktail party, we ate dinner together. I set with @KateBuckjr, @ChefMorris , @RoyMorejon, George and Geoff from @GroupStory, @RyanWynia, & @SilentClark. Our conversation included personal, sports, technology, and of course a lot of social media. Cruising is a naturally social experience, and the last two years it has proven to be a nice fit for social media conferences.
Day 2 Carnival Triumph:
Social Fresh Cruise conference session are a slightly different conference experience. We have a small group of very high level social media users. We try to make the sessions interactive with a lot of discussion about the future.
Today, @TedMurphy led an awesome discussion about the future of social media sponsorships. Ted has been a visionary leading the way for paid for content and his insights about the future of this space was incredible. @EricSchechter, Carnival Cruise Lines Social Media Manager, shined a light on the cool innovative things that Carnival has been doing with social media in his presentation. @AdamHoldenBache tied it all together with a discussion about the future of an online marketing campaign. @SilentClark told the group about his Social Media Experiment this past year where for he went for 100 days without talking, only communicating through social media in an effort to #SilenceCancer. This sparked tons of idea from the group about future social media experiments to help raise money for charities in 2011. And we learn today that @GroupStory is giving all of the Social Fresh Cruiser’s the opportunity to create and print their own social photobook of their Social Fresh Cruise experience. I learned a lot today and I am extremely thankful for each of speakers adding to the Social Fresh Cruise experience.
So at the end of Day 2, I am having a blast. I’m very fortunate to get to combine my two biggest passions social media and cruising. Tomorrow is the Carlos and Charlie’s Beach party with a couple hours of free drink.
