Tropical Storm Emily
Tropical Storm Emily is currently dropping rain on the Eastern Caribbean and is on a path to hit Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba, & possibly the Florida Keys and Bahamas. Tropical Storm Emily could see increased winds with the possibility of becoming Hurricane Emily.
Currently, Royal Caribbean is reporting itinerary changes to Oasis of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, & Serenade of the Seas.
These changes are for the current voyages. There are no reported impacts for next week’s itineraries.
Serenade of the Seas: Serenade reversed it’s itinerary to avoid the storm.
The Oasis of the Seas diverted from going to St. Thomas and St. Maarten and will instead call on Costa Maya & Cozumel.
The Freedom of the Seas has been diverted from St Thomas and St. Maarten and will instead visit Grand Cayman & Cozumel
Carnival & Princess Cruise Line impacts:
The Carnival Dream & Carnival Liberty diverted from St. Thomas and will instead enjoy the day in Grand Turk and Caicos.
The Caribbean Princess was also supposed to call on St. Thomas but instead will stay in port in San Juan.[box] Click to Read – AUG 4th Tropical Storm Emily Update[/box]
Cruising during Hurricane Season?
As you can see, if this week you were on a land-based vacation in St. Thomas you would be experiencing all Tropical Storm Emily has to offer. If she were a Hurricane, you would have to possibly endanger your life or fly home. The beauty of cruising during Hurricane Season is that the ships can change itineraries so that you avoid the storms.
When booking during hurricane season, you have to be aware that itinerary changes do occur. Prepare to be flexible. We recommend Travel Insurance for all cruises – but even more strongly during hurricane season.
