Review of the Norwegian Breakaway by Lynn Lambert [cruisesbylynn.com]:
I had the opportunity to go to the inaugural of the new ship Norwegian Breakaway. What an amazing ship! It doesn’t matter how young or how old you are, there’s something for everyone.
For the little kids and the big kids alike, you have some of the best waterslides I’ve seen. There are five multi-story waterslides that will give you the biggest rush ever at sea! Besides the water park you have a ropes course with a plank that’s called “The Plank” which hangs 8 feet over the side of ship. Show your kids that you can be as “cool” as Johnny Depp, Pirates of the Caribbean style! Take the plunge, not literally, but walk The Plank! Your kids will think you’re the best!
Norwegian Breakaway Dining
There are 28 dining options aboard this ship. Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian has launched his first ever at sea restaurants Ocean Blue, Ocean Blue on The Waterfront and The Raw Bar. I did get to experience one of the specialty restaurants called Le Bistro. The chicken I had just fell off the bones it was so tender. And mouth-watering Crème Brule for dessert! This is one restaurant I highly recommend. But you can also experience anything from Cagney’s Steakhouse to Teppanyaki an authentic Japanese restaurant. And if you have a sweet tooth, the Cake Boss Buddy Valastro has his own Carlos Bakery for you to enjoy. I have to admit I tried a Red Velvet Cupcake and a Lobster Tail, which is a pastry, and they were both amazing! Now I know why he’s called the Cake Boss!
The musical show “Rock of Ages” was fantastic! It was the whole musical, not just the music from it which was a pleasant surprise. All the singers and dancers were top-notch and put on one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. At Headliners the cast of Second City did some of the best improv I’ve ever seen. Very funny and really engaged with the audience. Another great show to see.
As for the staterooms, I had a balcony room which was very tastefully decorated. And another surprise was the size of the bathroom. Yes, I said the bathroom. Usually you get tiny, little shower stall but when I opened the door, I couldn’t believe the size of the glass enclosed shower stall. They really stepped it up on the bathrooms, which was great to see.
I did have the opportunity of exploring The Haven which Norwegian describes as “modern luxury hotel meets the sea”. These staterooms are absolutely beautiful and if you can afford one, I’d highly recommend The Haven to you. You have your own pool area with cabanas, your own dining room, and your own bar/lounge area. Nothing like luxury at sea!
And last but not least you have Family staterooms to Studio staterooms for SOLO travelers! And as a solo traveler, you also have your very own lounge area to meet other singles. And the price is right! No more “based on double occupancy” for this area of the ship. Finally, a cruise line getting it right for the solo person.
I could keep going on and on about The Breakaway but I have a better idea. Try it for yourself!! Contact your nearest Cruise Holidays expert and they will guide you all the way. Click here to locate your local Cruise Holidays Expert!
And last of all, have a great time in New York City on The Breakaway! I promise, you won’t be sorry!
