Late in 2012, I wrote a blog post about the challenge of finding an all-inclusive Caribbean resort that is adults only and specializes in accommodating large groups.
Most adults only resorts seem to either cater to romantic getaways or those looking for the wilder side of single adult travel.
Thanks to having private access to owners of Cruise Holiday’s franchises online, I was able to ask them for suggestions. This group of close to 300 of the nations top travel professionals has clients traveling all over the world. Not only are their clients constantly traveling, but they too are all extremely well-traveled.
Thanks to several of their suggestions in the private group, we chose the Magestic Elegance in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic for our friend’s 40th birthday trip with 10 other couples.
One of my highlights for 2013 was hosting the group at the Majestic Elegance with my wife Jess.
Here is our review of the Majestic Elegance All Inclusive Resort:
Punta Cana, Majestic Elegance Review:
For weeks leading up to the trip, I worked directly with the Majestic Elegance’s on-site group coordinator with restaurant reservations and other details for our group to ensure everything was perfect.
As a “sign” of their appreciation there was nice banner out front of the property welcoming our group.
Once inside the lobby, we were escorted over to the lobby bar to get the resort’s official fruity beverage: A Frozen Majestic with Rum.
The magnificent open-air lobby and main bar gives you the feeling that you’re entering paradise and gets you excited to see what lies ahead on this tropical resort.
The Club Elegance:
The Majestic Elegance is not completely adults only. The Club Elegance is their adults-only VIP area. The Club Elegance rooms are toward the furthest back [closest to the beach]. The Club Elegance Pools and bars are also the closest ones to the beach.
The only time we were around kids was in the lunch buffet. The swim up pool bar is in the family for part of one day we hung out at the swim bar which is in the main pool.
The Majestic Elegance Property:
The property is beautiful with pools intertwine throughout giving many of the ground-floor rooms swim-up patios. The VIP Club Elegance pools are in the best locations, but the swim-up bar is in the non-club area at the center of the property.
If you are traveling without kids, then upgrading to the VIP Majestic Club Elegance is a must. The tranquil pools, VIP lounges, concierge service, preferred suite locations and kid-free experience is well worth it!
There are 7 sections of guest rooms on the property, which can be a confusing at night. Before your first night, make sure you become familiar with your suites location or you could spend quite a lot of time trying to find it.
Entertainment: The Majestic Elegance has a night club, casino, and sports bars.
The Night Club was fun and happening each night. The Casino has slot machines, roulette, and black jack. The black jack has some strange rules which frustrated our group since most of us are regular players. They also did not allow tipping the dealers. It may not sound like a big deal, but they were noticeably not as friendly as dealers in mast casinos because they were not incentivized to by tips.
If black jack or craps is your thing, then you may want to test out other Punta Cana casinos. The Hard Rock Casino would have picked us up from the Majestic Elegance, but we never got group consensus on leaving the property.
White Party: If you are staying over the weekend, make sure you bring an all white outfit. There is a White Party and outdoor barbecue. The night of the white party and barbecue, you can go without dinner reservations if you’d like because the barbecue will fill you up.
The Suites: Almost everyone in our group had Junior Suites. Two couples upgrade to large suites. We had one minor issue with one of the rooms and our on-site group manager quickly found them a new room.
The larger multi-room suites offer over-sized balconies and extra living space.
The beach at the back of the Majestic Elegance property is absolutely beautiful. The soft sand beach and crystal blue waters are mesmerizing.
For those who like to be active: Our group did not play volleyball, but there was constantly a game going on. Several in our group used the gym and were happy with the facilities.
For the 4 days we were at Majestic Elegance, we spent most of the time in the pool or on the beach taking full advantage of the all-inclusive beverages.
With a large group, the Majestic Elegance requires reservations at the different specialty restaurants. At 9 Doors [Japanese] and Il Botaccia [Italian], they allow large groups to order off the entire menu.
At the other restaurants large groups receive a very select menu.
With a large group, everyone had different opinions on which restaurants were better than others. The Steakhouse & Japanese restaurants were the most popular restaurants with our group.
Overall, the dining experience at the Majestic Elegance was good. I liked the Sea & See lunch buffet better than the Flavours buffet… it helps that Sea & See is an open air restaurant with awesome views of the ocean.
As a regular cruiser, I prefer cruise ship dining to most land-based Caribbean resorts dining.
The Majestic Elegance met most of the expectations of our group. We were looking for a luxury adult only experience that was FUN for a large group of close to 40 year old couples.
Since most adult-only properties are more for honeymooners and romantic couples, there are not a ton of Caribbean resorts that accommodate large adult groups as well as the Majestic Elegance.
To me, the best part of the Majestic Elegance is the on-site group coordinator. As the group host, having someone on site who was responsible for making sure our group was happy made my job so easy. Our group coordinator made sure that we had dinner reservations, helped us get a new room and was there to resolve any issues that may have arisen.
I would definitely go back to the Majestic Elegance in Punta Cana. I’ll recommend the property for large groups of couples who are looking to have fun at a premium adults only resort.
