Now that Hurricane Arthur is forecast to be a category 2 Hurricane, I know the number 1 question on cruisers minds is will Hurricane Arthur impact my cruise?
Hurricane Arthur Cruise Impacts
The good news is that the Carnival Fantasy that homeports in Charleston had the best chance to be impact since the storm is currently located East of Charleston. But the Carnival Fantasy is not going to be back in Charleston until July 7th, and Hurricane Arthur will be long gone.
Norwegian Cruise line is reporting that the Norwegian Dawn departing from Boston July 4th and the Norwegian Gem departing NYC on July 5th are currently scheduled to depart on-time.
The Carnival Splendor departing NYC on July 7th should not be impacted by Hurricane Arthur.
As of now, it looks like there will not be any major impacts to cruise itineraries from Hurricane Arthur – but the long-term unpredictability of hurricanes means we should still keep an eye on the path.
Travel Insurance During Hurricane Season
While it looks like the first named hurricane of the 2014 hurricane season will have minimal impact on cruise vacations, it should serve as a reminder of the importance of Travel Insurance during this time of year.
If you’re going to do a Caribbean vacation from July – September, I believe you are better off doing a cruise than land-based trip. Cruises can navigate around the storm, while if you are on an island during a hurricane you only have 2 options: stick it out through the hurricane or fly home.
Either way, when you travel to the Caribbean or Bahamas during hurricane season, you absolutely need to buy travel insurance.
